HUD, OR FHA repossession homes can be found at http://www.bidselect.com.   If you are worried about a down payment, you don't need to.  HUD has a $100 down payment option for owner occupant homebuyers provided you 1) use FHA financing and 2) bid at least the asking price in your offer.  You must have between $500 and $1000 to put in escrow before the realtor can electronically submit an offer to be considered.

The value of these homes can range from below $100K to $271,050.00.  The website will inform you as to the repairs required to qualify for FHA financing, or if it cannot be financed (Uninsurable).

FHA will escrow any repair funds estimated for you to have done after closing (but within 7-10 days).

When you couple this program with the Tax incentive Credit of $4,000 (single) or $8,000 married,you can get in for virtually nothing..  However, you cannot use the IRS refund for your down payment. 

After you close, you fill out a form 5405 and submit it to the IRS either with your 2009 tax return, or file an amended return for the year you purchase the house, along with the form 5405, and the IRS will issue you a refund for the amount you are due.
